Jane was one of twelve children born to Groom Lane and Sarah Jackson of North Walsham Norfolk between 1804 and 1819. This was Groom Lane's first marriage; after Sarah's death he married Harriet Caroline Leadell in 1822 in North Walsham. Five children were born to this union, of whom one was Jane's half sister Emma, who was later to marry Edwin Hodges in Bermondsey. Edwin and Emma lived at 8 Florence Street, Islington, where Sarah Louise Gomery was recorded as a visitor in the 1901 census, and where she was living when she died in 1918. In her will she left £100 each to her "four friends Rosa Hodges, Ella Hodges, Florence Perrin widow (nee Hodges) and Lilian Clay of Nuneaton (nee Hodges)".
Jane (Lane) Vaughan died in the Sep quarter of 1900 aged 81.
