George James (Jim) lived at 77 Macoma Road, Plumstead with Ellen Maud and their large family. Evelyn Collins remembers him regularly teasing her by challenging her to tell his twins Nell and Kath apart from their photograph.
In 1901 the family had lived at 41 St James Place, Plumstead with the first four children - Maud (9), Edgar (7), Hilda (6) and Grace (2). Jim's occupation is given as "fireman" at the Royal Arsenal. On his marriage certificate his occupation is given as "tinman". In later years he had worked as a tinsmith/brazier.
