George Glasscock was the illegitimate child of Sarah Ann Glasscock and John George Campbell but, like his younger half-brother James, appeared not to be too disadvantaged by being brought up in a one parent family. In later life he was a Justice of the Peace, and in 1898, according to Kelly's Directory for that year, was Chairman of the South Shoebury District Council. In 1881, George, a plumber, painter and decorator, was living at Napier House, South Shoebury, with his wife Eliza and four children, plus his aunt, Priscilla Braybrook, John Pawsey, his nephew, a plumber's apprentice, and Hugh Brennan, a Scottish Army Chaplain who was lodging with the family.
