The 1901 Census, when Nora was 15, shows her living at 47 Hanover Rd, Plumstead, with her father John Coe, her mother Ellen, her older brothers Archibald and Frank and three male unmarried boarders. On leaving school, Nora worked for the Post Office in London and made many friends there, including Sue Spurrett and Kitty Fisher. On 5 June 1912 she married James Edward Collins at St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, in the presence of her mother Ellen Coe, her niece Maud Dennison, her sister-in-law Emily Collins and James Lenn.
Ted and Nora lived first at Wrottesley Road, Plumstead, where Evelyn and Arthur were born, and then at Claremont, 243 Burrage Road, Dudley's birthplace. In 1928 the family moved to Leigh-on-Sea in Essex for health reasons and also to allow Ted to pursue his passion for sailing. They lived first at Marine Parade and then at Grand Parade. A great source of grief was Arthur's death in the Navy in January 1942. After Ted's death on 10 November 1956, Nora moved to a bungalow in Nursery Close, Rayleigh, to be nearer her daughter Evelyn. All her life Nora was known for her sweet, gracious nature.
