Design
Explain
- This is the work required to liaise with you the customer and design the site. You would normally provide your own artwork. leaflet or brochure, which may already have an established logo/colour scheme/appearance. If you have none, we can discuss what I can provide for you. The work is charged per page. Just have one page if you like! This would be a good idea for anyone who would just like to see their advertising leaflet online. Five or six pages would be the average size for most sites. For a genealogical site you should provide your own gedcom file (if you aren't sure what this involves please contact me) and photographs.
How much?
- Design work: £50 per page. Genealogical sites would be charged on a different basis because they can contain hundreds of small pages which are automatically generated. In this case I charge £250 for the whole site.
- Charities: a single page is offered for charities free of charge. If a charity wants several pages I would offer a 10 per cent discount.
Maintenance
Explain
- This is extra design work done after the site has been established. It may be just changes of address and telephone number or the need may arise for extra pages to be added. Maintenance also includes submission to major search engines.
How much?
- I would normally charge £20 per hour for any changes you ask me to do and I would quote in advance. If however the changes are slight such as a new telephone number, I would do this without charge. Also there is no further charge for submission to search engines.
Hosting
Explain
- When a website has been built it has to be put onto a computer known as a server which is a computer that is always connected to the internet.
How much?
- For £50 per year I offer hosting on advert-free fast commercial webspace. The free single-page for charities will also be hosted free of charge.
- No charge if you can use any free space you may already have, but you would have to organise that yourself.
Domain Name
Explain
- If you purchase a domain name, the address of your website would then be in the form www.mysite.co.uk or for a charity, www.mysite.org.uk. For this, a payment has to be made every two years to Nominet which is the licencing authority.
- If you choose not to have a domain name, the address of the site takes the name of the service provider. So if you use free space you already have, your site will be something like www.webpages.mysite.freeserve.co.uk. Remember that free space sometimes has drawbacks such as compulsory banner adverts. If you agree to let me host your site, the name would be www.websuite.co.uk/mysite.
How much?
- £20 every two years for a standard .co.uk domain name.
- Free for a websuite.co.uk site.
- Free if you use your own free space (without a domain name).
Dual language sites
- These are double the price of standard sites.
Terms
- A deposit of 20% should be paid at the outset, once the work is agreed upon. The rest should be paid when the work is complete ONLY if you are satisfied with the work. If you are not completely happy with your website and decide not to use the site, I shall return your deposit.
