Thomas Coe MD lived in Moulsham, near Chelmsford. He was married to Frances Fowler of the Mildmay family, who predeceased him. We have a copy of his will, written in 1755,(source Public Record Office National Archives)(1339 KB) in which he bequeathed property to his late wife's sisters, his own brothers and sisters and his children Thomas and Frances, at that time still minors.
Extract from 1st codicil: "But as I have made this Trust upon the most carefull consideration and from the strongest affection to my children without having any ground at present to suspect them of ill conduct but only with a view to guard as far as may be against the indiscretions that young people are liable to from want of experience in life..." (Thomas's reasons for raising the age at which his children may inherit from 21 to 24 years.)
