Year of birth given as circa 1625 by IGI. John Coe was Head Burgess and feltmaker in Maldon in 1662 (Essex Review General Index 1892-1927). A copy of his will (1673) from the Essex Record Office reveals that he was also a grocer and had a wife Martha and two sons Charles and John, who appear to be around the ages of 11/12 at the time of the will. It seems probable therefore that Charles Coe (1662-1738) may be the elder son of John Coe. He also had a daughter Mary. He had property in Maldon, North Fambridge and Heybridge.
