Individual Note
Lilian was the third eldest of a large family of nine children living in the household of Henry Walter Newstead, a master tailor, at 51 Burdett Road in the East End of London. Like her sisters, she was expert in the art of dressmaking, and later enjoyed turning her hand to furnishing the large historic houses that she and her husband Sidney Glasscock lived in during the 1930s and 50s.
